There are two ways to support need-based student scholarships at Brandeis: annual scholarships and endowed scholarships. Minimum gift levels apply for each type of scholarship.

Types of Scholarship Support

Endowed Scholarships

Spent directly on student financial aid Invested and a percentage of earnings are used for student aid.

Awarded to a student each year, throughout the contribution period.

Funds become available to students nine months after the first payment. As the fund’s principal grows, so too will the amount available for students.

Can be renewed after the initial commitment.

Donors receive reports on their endowment's market performance.

Donor Benefits

As a scholarship donor, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Name your scholarship in honor of a family member or beloved professor, or it can simply carry your own name.
  • Offer a broad scholarship designation to maximize flexible alignment with students’ educational journey.
  • Connect directly with your student scholar and provide mentorship over time.
  • Attend Brandeis’ annual scholarship appreciation event to meet student recipients of your scholarship and others.
  • Enjoy membership in the Justice Brandeis Society Brandeis' exclusive recognition society for leadership-level donors.
  • Receive progress reports on the performance of your endowed fund.

Setting Up a Scholarship: What’s Next

Your Brandeis gift officer will draft a gift agreement for your review. This agreement will outline your scholarship’s name, gift amount, fulfillment schedule and other terms agreed upon by you and the university. Once your scholarship is established, Brandeis will identify a highly deserving student recipient with demonstrated financial need.

Contact your gift officer to get started.

Paying It Forward

Sharon Roitman
“I established an annual scholarship as a way to make a personal and lasting difference in the life of a Brandeis student. My gift makes an immediate impact by providing a deserving student access to a Brandeis education and the freedom to pursue their academic aspirations. Knowing that I’m contributing directly to their success is particularly rewarding.” - Sharon Roitman ’92
Mark Blumberg
“Having the opportunity to get involved in laboratory research and publish in a scientific journal as an undergraduate at Brandeis was a springboard to a successful career in neuroscience. I established an annual scholarship to help students benefit from the same experiences that were so life-changing for me.” - Mark Blumberg ’83

“You are the reason that Brandeis can provide an outstanding education for all of our students. Your generosity honors this university’s founding principles of access, inclusivity and tolerance. Together, we will continue to further Brandeis’ mission to make the world a better place through rigorous scholarship, a commitment to truth and openness, and a shared sense of purpose.”
