What Makes Us Like The Foods That We Like?
We can pretty much all agree that one of life's great joys is eating tasty food. But what makes one food taste better than another? Amazingly, the nature of the food itself is just one small part of the answer to this question; in fact, your likes and dislikes are determined by a collusion of many factors, including natural selection and genetics, your senses of smell, touch, and vision (as well as taste), your lifetime of experiences, and social pressures. The learned and lively Dr. Katz will discuss how our brains combine this welter of information such that most of us end up liking sweets, some of us end up liking beer, and all of our tastes are subject to change.
