Jonathan Brant '68, district court judge in Cambridge, MA, led a panel discussion on the leadership of Justice Louis D. Brandeis at BAMD! '06. The lively discussion covered Louis Brandeis’s lasting legacy of social justice and leadership, his contributions to the legal field, and his reputation as the "people's attorney."
Panelists included Anita H. Dymant '71, judge, California Superior Court, Los Angeles County; Joette Katz '74, justice, Connecticut Supreme Court; Richard S. Kay '68, the George and Helen England Professor of Constitutional Law, University of Connecticut Law School; Frank Gilbert, grandson of Louis D. Brandeis; and Nick Paleologos, executive producer for a documentary film on Louis D. Brandeis currently being produced by Charles Stuart of Stuart Television Productions. Philippa Strum '59, P '98, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and Justice Louis D. Brandeis biographer, was scheduled to participate but was unable to attend.
Several judges on the panel credited Brandeis with influencing their legal decisions. Executive producer Nick Paleologos shared news of the making of his documentary, and the inspiration he felt from learning about Brandeis.
