Classic Safari: Kenya & Tanzania

June 16-July 2, 2010

Kenya Join President Jehuda Reinharz PhD '72 and Professor Shulamit Reinharz MA '69, PhD '77 on a once-in-a-lifetime, 17-day classic safari to Kenya and Tanzania. Begin in exotic Nairobi, Kenya's cosmopolitan capital city, and tour such sights as the famous City Market, a lively enclave of stalls selling produce, flowers, and handcrafts; the house and museum of Danish writer Karen Blixen, who as Isak Dinesen wrote Out of Africa. Head out on "game drives" in Masai Mara where you will see lions, leopards, cheetahs, zebra, giraffe, gazelles, wildebeest, elephants, buffalo, hippo, rhino, and other wildlife that call the Mara home, then retreat back to a luxury camp and enjoy a spa and swimming pool, cultural and wildlife talks, and Maasai dance performances. Visit Amboseli National Reserve, in the shadow of snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro and lounge beneath the famed feathered acacia trees. Continue your safari into Tanzania, and see the world's largest intact volcanic caldera at the spectacular Ngorongoro. Explore the treeless Serengeti plains, which boast the highest concentration of large animals on the planet.

Journey through Vietnam

October 9-24, 2010

Saigon

Jehuda and Shula Reinharz will be hitting the road again in October, leading alumni and friends on an extraordinary and riveting trip through one of Asia's most fascinating and historically rich countries.

Tour Hanoi's cultural and historic Ba Dinh Square; the mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh; the 1,000-year-old One Pillar Pagoda, built on a single stone pillar to resemble a lotus blossom; the Hoan Kiem Lake; the Temple of Literature, founded in 1070 and dedicated to Confucius; and shop the "36 Streets District." Visit the legendary waterway Ha Long Bay, sprinkled with some 3,000 islands and islets and surrounded by a fairytale landscape of limestone cliffs, secret grottoes, and hidden caves. Cruise by sampan along Hue's Perfume River and explore the Mekong Delta's floating vegetable market at Cai Rang. The 15-day trip concludes in Saigon, the proud capital of South Vietnam interchangeably referred to as Ho Chi Minh City, where travelers will visit the former Presidential Palace, now called Reunification Palace; the Historical Museum, housing a fine collection of art and artifacts of Vietnam's indigenous peoples; the stunning Central Post Office; and Notre Dame Cathedral, built in 1880 with bricks from Marseilles and stained glass windows crafted by artisans from Chartres, France.
