Thought leaders to speak at Adventures in Creative Retirement conference on Sept. 9 at Brandeis

Each day, nearly 10,000 baby boomers leave the workforce with unprecedented prospects for longevity and vitality, according to U.S. Social Security Administration research.

Brandeis is bringing together dynamic thought leaders on the issues facing retirees at Adventures in Creative Retirement, an all-day conference hosted by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Brandeis (BOLLI) on Saturday, Sept. 9. Keynote speakers will include Columbia University professor Ruth Finkelstein and Susannah Fox, former chief technology officer for Health and Human Services under President Barack Obama.

Finkelstein’s keynote is entitled “Growing Older in the American City: What We Have Now, and What We Ought to Fight Like Hell to Get by 2030.” Fox will offer “The Innovative Retirement Residence of the Future: the Wired World, Robotics and Home Health Care Delivery.”

Breakout sessions will include:

  • Working in Retirement: The Gig Economy and You
  • Healthy Aging in Practice: The Benefits of Tai Chi
  • The Internet of Things in the Boomer Home of the Future
  • Options in Healthy Aging Home Design
  • A Volunteer Career: Giving Back and Getting Even More
  • The Healthy Aging City: The Best Places to Live
The conference is designed “to empower attendees to think creatively about their retirement and take ownership over their life choices,” according to Avi Bernstein, BOLLI’s director.

Alumni can register at brandeis.edu/rabb/creative-retirement. Use promo code ALUMNI to enjoy a 10 percent discount until Sept. 1.

The conference is sponsored by WBUR and Uber, which will offer discounted rides for conference participants.
