  • Faculty in the Field with Professor Reuven Kimelman

    The Brandeis community in Toronto gathered at the home of Sarah '86 and Larry Krauss for the Alumni Club of Toronto's annual Faculty in the Field event.... Reuven Kimelman, professor of Near Eastern and Judaic studies, spoke on "How is a Peace Process Different from a Piece Process?" Guests enjoyed an evening of intellectual conversation and reconnecting with fellow Brandeis alumni.

  • Alumni in the Field: An evening with jewellery designer and goldsmith Tamara Kronis '95

    Goldsmith, gemologist and jewellery designer Tamara Kronis '95 hosted more than 20 alumni and friends at her Toronto custom fine jewellery studio, Studio1098, for the Alumni Club of Toronto's first Alumni in the Field event.... Following Tamara's talk and demonstration, the group gathered across the street for a happy hour at The Quail and Firkin. The evening was organized by club president Judi Shostack '78.

    More than 20 alumni, parents and friends gathered at the home of Donna Lubin Goldman '74 on April 15 for the Alumni Club of Toronto's annual Faculty in the Field event.... Professor Dan Breen led the group in a discussion about "Justice Brandeis and Free Speech in the U.S. and Canada." The event was part of the Louis D. Brandeis 100: Then and Now celebration, marking the centennial of Justice Brandeis' nomination and confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court.

  • Reception Honouring Mark Surchin '78

    More than 50 people attended a reception to honour Mark Surchin '78 for his selection as president of the Brandeis Alumni Association.... A true ambassador for Brandeis, Surchin has proudly served as an alumni leader for more than 15 years and founded the Alumni Club of Toronto in 2000. He is the first Alumni Association president to live outside the United States. The event was hosted by David and Leanne Matlow, P'18, at their home in Toronto.

  • Brandeisians Enjoy a Summer Gathering in Toronto

    Alumni, incoming and current students, parents and friends came together in Toronto on August 19 for an end of summer gathering.... Guests of all ages enjoyed a delicious dinner as they caught up with their local Brandeis community and gave a special welcome to the class of 2018. This event was hosted by club president Judi Shostack '78 at her home in Toronto.

  • Alumni in Toronto Gather for Faculty in the Field

    The Brandeis community in Toronto gathered at the home of Benjamin Rubin '79 for the Alumni Club of Toronto's annual Faculty in the Field event on Sunday, April 27.... This year featured Maura Jane Farrelly, associate professor of American studies, who spoke on the subject, "Private Media, Public Obligation: Profit and the Fourth Estate." Professor Farrelly examined the development of the publicly-traded, for-profit news model in the United States and its effect on democracy. Guests enjoyed a robust discussion and enjoyable morning of reconnecting with their fellow Brandeis alumni.

    Toronto Club Co-President Myra Kotkin Novogrodsky ’68 and event host Nina Josefowitz ’72 welcomed fellow alumni to hear Don Katz, professor of psychology and neuroscience, present “Why We Like the Foods That We Like.” Katz...... explained that genetics, personal experiences and one’s other senses determine an individual’s taste preferences.

  • Dr. Svetlena Taneva, MA'05, Teaches Toronto Alumni about the Realities of Patient Safety

    Toronto alumni attended a presentation given by Dr. Svetlena Taneva, MA'05, to learn about the safeties and dangers associated with being a medical patient on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at the Centre for Global eHealth Innovation... at Toronto General Hospital. A question and answer session followed the presentation, and Dr. Taneva subsequently led the group on a tour of the state-of-the-art healthcare usability simulation labs where the majority of new medical devices and hospital processes are tested. Following the talk, guests joined club co-presidents Myra ‘68 and Charles ‘68 Novogrodsky for a dim sum lunch.

  • Brandeis-Canada Endowed Scholarship Kickoff is a Success!

    More than 30 alumni and friends joined Daniel Terris, director of the International Center for Ethics, Justice and Public Life at Brandeis, for the kickoff event of the campaign for the Brandeis-Canada Endowed Scholarship on... Thursday, October 18, 2012. Attendees learned how this new scholarship venture will have an impact on the lives of young people from Canada who hope to come to Brandeis for their collegiate studies. Former Trustee Len Asper ’86 and his wife Susan hosted the event at their home in Toronto.     The Alumni Club of Toronto gathered for a vegetarian pot-luck while welcoming the Class of 2011 to the Alumni Association on Tuesday, August 16, 2011. The group enjoyed a variety of vegetarian dishes while also enjoying... each other’s company. Club co-presidents Myra ’68 and Charlie Novogrodsky ’68 were in attendance at this event, hosted by Rabbi Elyse Goldstein ’78 (Elyse is also the proud parent of Noam ’11, MA’12!).

  • Toronto Alumni Enjoy a Night at the Theater

    The Alumni Club of Toronto had the opportunity to see the 2010 New York Drama Desk and Helen Hayes award winning show Zero Hour, chronicling the life of Zero Mostel, on Saturday, March 26, 2011. However, this night at the theater... was enhanced by the special opportunity to meet the star of the show, Jim Brochu. Jim spent time with the group discussing about his experience playing Zero.
