SAB something we you and I always talk about is like we can do hard things. Yeah. And like, you say that to me, I say that to you.
Sabrina Salov
Today, actually today in the locker room.
Mary Shimko
Every day. Like, what is like, you know, I know you've given me a journal. We've bonded over Glennon Doyle. Brené Brown are like powerful women that inspire us. What are those words? Mean to you? What does why do you say that every day?
Sabrina Salov
I think that obviously we can do hard things can sound like it could just sound like something that is put in the air when it seems very negative or like things are hard. And obviously when things are hard, you need to acknowledge that and it's OK to mourn them. But I feel like for me, it meant a lot because especially in the athletics and the sports world and the atmosphere that we had growing up, like no matter who you are and where you're from, it's always like just show up through the pain.
Sabrina Salov
Like, like do the extra, go the extra mile, like show up like after practice, come before other people are doing it too. And it's like, don't ask any questions. Yeah. And it's a lot of toxic positivity and I feel like toxic positivity once you start thinking about how awful it is, and it's like, OK, like it's hard to get out of.
Sabrina Salov
Like it's, it's hard to organize, like, OK, when do I show up? When do I not. But when I hear, like, we can do hard things it's like, this is something that is part of my journey and like, that's OK and like, that's OK, you know?
Mary Shimko
And sometimes we can do hard things means we can take a break.
Sabrina Salov
Exactly.
Mary Shimko
And like, sometimes taking a break is really hard.
Sabrina Salov
Yes, exactly. I mean, literally anything. Yeah. And I think that, like, a lot of the time, like, we feel like when we're burning out or like when something seems really hard or something like isn't working, like we have to just sit back because we don't like failure and we don't like to mess up. And I think again, tying back to this book, like, which is obviously I think I said completely changed my life, like I've a different perspective I have, I've definitely gained from it is that like things are going to happen in life and you can't control everything and it's what can you do to control like what you can in the moment?
Sabrina Salov
How are you going to respond? And even if it's not in a way where you want to like what can you learn from it and like how can you show up for other people when you know that you can.
