Transcript of Brandeis Class of 1952

Julian Koss '52: "We're very proud of the fact that when we did things, we did things at this university for the first time."

Penny Peirez Abrams '52: "What excited me is that admission was by number. They didn't know what color you were. They didn't know where you came from. There were no religious references. And Jewish founded. And that combination really got me very excited."

Diana Laskin Siegal '52: "As I say, I was 16 and very young and rather naive. Starting something new didn't frighten me and I credit Brandeis for that."

Penny Peirez Abrams '52: " My father was not happy. He said it's not accredited. You could have an education that doesn't mean anything. And I said to him, but you have to stand for what you believe in and this is what you taught me and this is what I believe in. So I came full of idealism and determination to show the world it could be done."

Max J. Perlitsh '52: "What was unique about our class, the Class of '52, coming in October of '48, faced this absolute absence of any kind of organization. The lifeblood of a university it truly in its student body."

Julian Koss '52: "We created an atmosphere of togetherness, that we're in this together, that we have to help one another."

Max J. Perlitsh '52: "We had to then transform that void into the university that we could function within. With a wonderful faculty and with putting in place all kinds of institutions that usually are in place at other schools."

Julian Koss '52: "We can't ignore the Class of '53 or the Class of '54 because they too were small and they were here with us. And that became a way of life and I think it's carried on today. From what I understand the classes here at Brandeis, although much larger, have the same feeling that we did. We become a family once we get here and I think the same thing is happening today."
