Marshall Herskovitz ’73, creator of “thirtysomething,” addresses alumni at gala dinner; five alumni recognized for outstan

Award-winning film and television writer, producer, and director Marshall Herskovitz '73 delivered the keynote address at the BAMD '06! Awards and Gala Dinner on October 21 at Boston’s John Joseph Moakley Courthouse, where five alumni received service awards from the Alumni Association.

Herskovitz reflected on the activism of his undergraduate days as Brandeis, and lamented the current "lack of passion" among members of his generation. He called on fellow alumni to stand up against inaction on a host of political and social issues. Herskovitz is committing considerable time and effort to raise awareness of global warming and other environmental issues.

'06 Chair Laurie Slater Albert '74; and Stephen Albert at the John Joseph Moakley Courthouse in Boston. Engraved on the marble wall at the courthouse entrance is the quote from Louis D. Brandeis "Justice is but truth in action." One of his many memorable quotes, it celebrates his spirit of social justice and leadership, a spirit many agree was embodied by the late Massachusetts Senator Joseph Moakley.

Several Alumni awards were presented at the Gala by Alumni Association President Darlene Green Kamine '74, P'03 and Wendy Morris Berliner '95, president of the Alumni Club of Greater Boston. Adam Rifkin '97 received the Alumni Association Young Leadership Award; Mark Cohen '78 was given the Alumni Association Service to Association Award; and Eileen Winter '78, Kenneth Winter '77 and Francine Shonfeld Sherman '84 received the Alumni Admissions Council Service Award.
