TED Talk star Simon Sinek ’95 to speak at alumni event on Oct. 16 in NYC

TED Talk star Simon Sinek '95 will speak at an upcoming Alumni Association event.

Brandeis alumni in the New York area have the opportunity to attend two upcoming business leadership events.

Best-selling author Simon Sinek 95, whose TED Talk about leadership has been viewed more than 34 million times, will speak at an alumni event on Monday, Oct. 16 at Convene. Sinek is the author of four books and consults numerous organizations from Disney to the United Nations. Attendees will receive a copy of Sinek’s book “Leaders Eat Last.” The event is sponsored by the Richman Family Foundation and Michael Saivetz '97Register here.

The Brandeis International Business School will honor Charles Phillips, this year’s recipient of the Perlmutter Award for Excellence in Global Business Leadership, at an event Thursday, Oct. 26 at Infor's corporate headquarters. Phillips is the chairman and chief executive officer of Infor, which provides software to more than 90,000 organizations worldwide and employs more than 15,000 people. Register here.

Alumni might recognize Sinek from his popular TED Talk, “How Great Leaders Inspire Action,” which has been translated into 45 languages and is the third most-watched talk of all time on TED.com. Sinek, who describes himself as an optimist and author, has built a successful career helping people find meaning in their lives and work. An Evening with Simon Sinek is sponsored by the Richman Family Foundation and Michael Saivetz ’97.

Before leading Infor, Phillips was president of Oracle Corp. and a member of its board of directors. A former captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, Phillips is the chair emeritus of the Posse Foundation, an organization founded by Deborah Bial ’87. The foundation identifies and trains public-high school students with extraordinary potential and works with partner universities, including Brandeis, who award full-tuition Posse scholarships. Event speakers include Brandeis President Ron Liebowitz; Brandeis IBS Interim Dean Peter A. Petri, the Carl J. Shapiro Professor of International Finance; and Brandeis IBS professor Andy Molinsky, director of the Perlmutter Institute.

Established by Trustee Louis Perlmutter ’56, H’95, and Barbara Perlmutter, a member of the Brandeis IBS Board of Overseers, the Perlmutter Institute for Global Business Leadership prepares students for leadership positions in global corporations throughout the world. The Perlmutter Award honors individuals who have demonstrated exceptional business leadership worldwide.
