The countdown is on to Homecoming 2016

Brandeis alumni and their families are invited to return to campus for Homecoming 2016 to enjoy a weekend full of sports, opportunities to visit with fellow alumni, and activities for the whole family on Oct. 8-9.

In addition to varsity and alumni athletic events, the weekend includes the third annual Zero-Year Reunion (for the Class of 2016) and Homecoming Bash, the Joseph M. Linsey Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremonies, and the Waltham Group’s 50th anniversary gala.

“We are thrilled to welcome alumni back to campus for Homecoming,” says Patsy Fisher, vice president of alumni relations. “From varsity athletic events, to the family-friendly carnival, to the Zero-Year Reunion and Homecoming Bash, there really is something of interest for alumni of all ages.”

The women’s volleyball team opens the Homecoming athletic competition with a tri-match against Eastern Connecticut and Salve Regina at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The nationally ranked Judges women’s and men’s soccer teams follow with a doubleheader against Case Western, the women playing at 11 a.m. followed by the men at 1:30 p.m.

Several alumni athletic contests are also scheduled: swimming and diving (10 a.m.), men’s basketball (11 a.m.), fencing (11 a.m.), baseball (12 p.m.) and women’s basketball (1 p.m.) on Saturday, and softball (9 a.m.) on Sunday.

The Saturday schedule of events features:

Food Trucks and Fun, 11 a.m --
This family-friendly event will feature food trucks from some of Boston’s finest purveyors, a beer garden, a bounce house and other inflatables, a petting zoo, pony rides, pumpkin painting, carnival games, face painters and a balloon artist.

Alumni Athlete Panel Discussion, 4-5:30 p.m. --
A panel of successful alumni athletes will share their career paths since Brandeis and offer advice to current students. This event is open to all students and alumni, and is sponsored by the Hiatt Career Center, Friends of Brandeis Athletics and the Brandeis Alumni Association.

17th annual Joseph M. Linsey Athletic Hall of Fame induction, 5 p.m. -- Longtime swimming and diving coach Jim Zotz, basketball and baseball star Bryan Lambert ’05, nine-time All-American runner Mariko Neveu ’03 and soccer standout Ken Hannan ’95 are the inductees.

Zero-Year Reunion (for Class of 2016) and Homecoming Bash, 6 p.m. -- Members of the Class of 2016 and their friends will gather under the tent for their Zero-Year Reunion, an opportunity to visit with classmates and share experiences since graduation in May. A Zero-Year Reunion kickball game is also scheduled. Alumni from all classes are invited to the Homecoming Bash.

Waltham Group 50th anniversary gala celebration, 6 p.m.
-- The Waltham Group kicks off their year-long tribute to the legacy of service to the community with an elegant evening featuring dinner, a silent auction and guest speakers, including alumni, students and the founders of the Waltham Group.

Homecoming is sponsored by the Brandeis Alumni Association and the Department of Athletics.
