B Connect Registration

What is a UNet account?
University Network (UNet) account provides access to core Brandeis services for all students, faculty, staff and now alumni. Once you’ve completed the re-registration process, your UNet account credentials will be the same credentials you will use to access your B Connect services.

Why am I being asked to open a new account?
We are currently making routine technology updates that will reconnect recent alumni with their former student UNet account (if available) and require some alumni to create a UNet account. Once you’ve completed the re-registration process, your UNet account credentials will be the same credentials you will use to access your B Connect services.

I have never registered for B Connect. What does this mean for me?
If you have not registered for B Connect before, you can do so easily by setting up a new account. Please visit the website.

Will I have access to the same services that I once had with B Connect?
Yes. However, you will NOT have access to email forwarding with the domain (See below for detailed explanation of changes.)

What are the password/passphrase requirements to set up a new account? 

Password: Your password must be at least 10 characters and be a mix of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and a symbol (e.g., a comma, hyphen, etc.) and must meet Brandeis password requirements (not based on a dictionary word, adjacent characters on the keyboard, or your name). Passwords expire on a yearly basis.

Passphrase: A passphrase must be at least 15 characters long and contain upper and lower case letters. It may, but is not required to, contain other characters as well. The maximum length of your password/passphrase is 30 characters. Please view our suggestions on how to pick strong passwords/phrases. A quality passphrase is a string of words with each separated by a space. Passphrases expire every two (2) years.

How long does the signup process take?
Most users complete the process within 3-5 minutes. 

How do I use my Gmail Account? Where can I find it?
Once your B Connect account has been created, your email account should be ready for use. To visit your Brandeis Gmail Account, please go to: We hope that you consider adding your Brandeis Gmail to your mobile device. Can I use Gmail in Apple Mail, Thunderbird, or Outlook?

Why can't I claim a previous user ID that I had while a student?
If, during the registration process, you receive a message that the username you selected is taken or unavailable, it means that prior username cannot be released for use. Please select a different username. 

What do I do if I have an issue with signing up for an account?
Please contact the LTS Helpdesk at or 781-736-4357 between the hours of 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. (EDT) Monday - Friday.

Is my invitation to re-register for B Connect a phishing scam?
No. The email that you received is an official Brandeis email. If you suspect that your account has been compromised, please send a copy of the email that you received to for further investigation.

E-Mail Forwarding

Why the change to email forwarding? Will I still have email forwarding?

Brandeis is changing the email forwarding system as part of an overall technology upgrade, one that will enable greater access to Brandeis services in the future. Brandeis is offering alumni an email account hosted by Gmail. You can continue to forward your email to an alternate email account through Brandeis Gmail. To do this, visit the Account Tools section on the helpdesk website.

How does this differ from current forwarding email service?
As stated above, this will now be a full-featured Gmail account rather than a forwarding service. Therefore, all messages will be accessed by logging into Google with your email address. If you would like to continue to forward your mail, you will need to set up forwarding in this account.

How can I continue to forward my mail?
Your previous email forwarding address will be discontinued. You can, however, set up a forwarding email address through your email account. To learn more on how to forward all messages or just specific types of messages, please visit

What if I already have a Gmail account?
That’s ok. The Brandeis-branded email account will in no way interfere with your existing account. If your email/username is pre-filled with your Gmail address when visiting the Gmail site, click “Sign in with a different account” at the bottom of the page and log in with the appropriate credentials.

I’d like my address to be my preferred email for communication from Brandeis. Is this possible?
Yes. Once your account has been set up, login to B Connect and select the Contact Information section. In your preferred email settings, indicate that your address is to be your preferred email address.

When will email forwarding using be discontinued?
Email forwarding using will officially be discontinued on October 31, 2016. Please be sure to inform your contacts that your account will no longer be active after that date. You can continue to forward your email to an alternate email account through Brandeis Gmail. To do this, visit the Account Tools section on the helpdesk website.
