About Professor Alain Lempereur
Alain Lempereur is the Alan B. Slifka chair, professor and director of the Conflict Resolution and Coexistence Program at Brandeis University’s Heller School for Social Policy and Management. He is also an affiliated faculty and executive committee member of the Program on Negotiation (PON) at Harvard Law School.
Lempereur is a world-renowned expert in European negotiation and diplomacy. Before joining Brandeis, he established Essec Irene – a European negotiation institute in Paris that he led for 15 years. He created the negotiation curriculum for the European Commission in Brussels and also taught at the College of Europe. Lempereur has published a dozen books, including "The First Move. A Negotiator’s Companion" which appeared in many languages. He has contributed more than 100 articles and book chapters. His research and expertise address responsible negotiation and leadership as well as humanitarian negotiation and mediation. A native of Belgium, he graduated from the Universities of Brussels (M Law ’88, M Phil ’89) and Harvard (Fulbright Fellow & Frank Boas ’91, LL.M. ’93, SJD ’95, PON ’96-‘97).
